Junkyard Angel is:
Jim Marshall - Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar
Jim is a co-founding member of Junkyard Angel and has been with the band since its inception. Jim has also gigged as a solo artist as well as with his family bands, The Marshall Brothers and the Marshall Family, out of Charleston, SC for the past 16 years. At only 32, Jim has already received recognition for outstanding songwriting from the Nashville Songrwriters Association. Jim's original "Wrecker's Ball" received the distiguished "Platinum Auddy Award," and received a wonderful review from Nashville Songwriting legend, Tony Arata (who penned "The Dance" performed by Garth Brooks.) Jim has also opened for such nationally acclaimed acts as The Marshall Tucker Band, Drivin' N' Cryin', Foghat, .38 Special, Jupiter Coyote, AllGood, Bloodkin, Kevn Kinney, Tonic, and Drill, to name a few. Jim is a critically acclaimed songwriter, winning awards for such from Wasted Magazine, Rock N' Rolla News, Honkytonk Press, and The Charleston BarFly. He was also given high praise by The Oxford American Magazine who once labeled him "...the countrytonk musical mixture of Gram Parsons, Paul Simon, and Tom Petty, all shaken and stirred in a bottle of turpentine and swallered, in an oh so good way." Jim currently resides on Johns Island, SC with his wife Kate and cat, Diva.
Stewart Marshall - Vocals, Electric Guitar, Mandolin
Stewart is best known as "Stewart" from the successfully long running regional touring act, Stewart and Winfield. Stewart was a co-founding member or Stewart and Winfield as well as Junkyard Angel, which started as a side project of sorts while he was back in Savannah while Stewart and Winfield took a temporary hiatus from the touring schedule. Stewart has played with more acts than can possibly be named in a brief paragraph...but he has shared the bill as well as the stage with some of the finest musicians around, including Willie Nelson, The Jayhawks, Zac Brown band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Taj Mahal, The Radiators, Blues Traveler, AllGood, Jupiter Coyote, Widespread Panic, Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Edwin McCain, Kevn Kinney, The Blue Dogs and the Derek Trucks Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, etc etc etc. Stewart and Winfield also HEADLINED bills for, at the time, "unknown opening acts" and groups such as Train and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, (in her earlier bands,) prior to their respective stardom. Stewart continues to live in Savannah with his family and tour with Junkyard Angel, Stewart and Winfield, and his family bands; The Marshall Brothers, The Marshall Family, The Marshalls and Rock.N.Chair.
Book a Marshall!
Joe Ippolito - Drums, Chest Bumps, and Knee slaps
Joe joined Junkyard some years back and is perhaps the most "famous" member in a "i've played with" manner having been the original drummer for Ex-Geffen Recording Artists, REMY ZERO, (Most notably famous for having their songs featured in the Zach Braf film, Garden State. Joe, much like Stewart, has a repertoire too lengthy to even begin to go into detail. Joe is the owner of Riverhorse Internet Marketing and lives with his family in Savannah.
Scott Tanner - Bass
Scott has played bass as well as guitar in bands throughout the area since the early 1980's. Easily the coolest dude in the band, he has become one of the most respected honkytonk bassists in the region, garnering praise from such noted bassists as Flea, Billy Sheehan, and Bill Wyman. He once shared a bottle of Jack with Berry Oakley!!!! His first band included Junkyard's own Stewart Marshall on vocals, Jack West (currently of Curvature) on guitar and renowned drummer Robert Sumowski. Joining Junkyard was a 25th year reunion playing with Stewart. In addition to playing with the current members of Junkyard Angel, Scott has shared the stage with former Junkyard guitarist Scotty Rahn, guitarist & petal steel player Allan Hughes and guitarist Bradley Smith (Olde Dog), Winfield Smith (Stewart and Winfield), guitarist & petal steel player master A.J.Adams and Athens greatest drummer Carlton Owens (Stewart & Winfield). Scott also plays the bass for The Marshall Brothers, Rock.N.Chair, Monkey Man, and the Yard Angels.
Andrew Gill - Lead Guitar, Vocals
Andrew, the youngest, and newest member of the group got his start as a young lad at the tender age of 14 with his little guitar at a show in Savannah where the Marshall Brother's were playing an impromtu gig. Andrew walked up, sat in on a song and the rest is history. He is most famous for being the frontman of regional bigwig's Wormsloew. Wormsloew has attracted a massive following based on their versatile playing and catchy song crafting. They were discoverd and signed by Jupiter Coyote frontman Matt Mayes and signed to his label MBM Entertainment. Wormsloew has played some of the largest venues in the region. With just under 130,000 hits on myspace, and a healthy slew of loyal and devoted followers, Wormsloew is primed to make another rocket climb. Andrew comes to Junkyard Angel during a break in touring from the Worsloew schedule and hopefully we can keep him around a bit. Check out more of Andrew and Wormsloew at http://www.myspace.com/wormsloew.
